Are Volvo trucks good for business?

Are Volvo trucks good for business?

We covered extensive topics on how best to evaluate and find information about Volvo FH trucks.

Are Volvo trucks good for business?

Logistics companies choose Volvo FH trucks for their operations due to various advantages, including fuel efficiency, truck safety, comfort, and a wide range of business-supporting services offered.

The fuel efficiency of the Volvo FH primarily begins with the I-Save system. This system is an ideal solution if you aim for lower long-haul fuel costs and excellent driving characteristics. The I-Save system combines the Volvo D13TC engine and a fuel package. The fuel package consists of the I-See operating on a map basis, I-Cruise with I-Roll, energy-efficient rear axles, engine shutdown during idle, and a variable steering pump. As a result, fuel expenses can be reduced by up to 10%. Additionally, I-Save allows for longer periods of driving at lower RPMs and in higher gears, providing a smoother and quieter ride.

One of the key factors of the I-Save system is the D13TC, the most economical Volvo engine of all time, with power ranging from 420, 460, to 500 horsepower. With the Turbo Compound technology, the D13TC engine fully utilises available energy at each stage, ensuring greater efficiency throughout the entire RPM range, with the best results achieved between 900-1300 rpm. The D13TC engine boasts 300 Nm more torque at low RPMs. When driving on the highway and maintaining a constant speed, less acceleration and less fuel are required. Coupled with I-See, the engine allows overcoming hills and inclines in higher gears, saving fuel without sacrificing speed, ensuring a smoother ride.

Optimizing efficiency and savings with Volvo's I-save system

Another system significantly contributing to fuel savings is the I-Shift, designed specifically for efficient highway driving. When activating the economical mode, gear shifts occur precisely when needed, ensuring that the engine reaches the most fuel-efficient RPM range. The I-Shift and I-Save systems are effectively complemented by the I-See system, based on a high-precision topographical map.

Utilising road information ahead, especially in hilly terrain, I-See optimally harnesses the kinetic energy of the truck. The system’s task is to select gears, accelerate when necessary, and shut down the engine when I-Cruise is engaged.

Volvo emphasises safe and comfortable truck driving through the Volvo Dynamic Steering system. It provides stability and control functions to minimise driver stress, prevent slipping, and lane deviation during operation. The Dynamic Steering system consists of a standard hydraulic power steering and an electric motor mounted to the steering mechanism. Its operating principle involves constant processing of information from road sensors, determining the truck’s movements and the driver’s intentions. Engine control signals are transmitted 2,000 times per second, allowing adjustments to unwanted steering movements and providing additional torque when needed. When the vehicle begins to slide, the system ensures smoother driving. As the vehicle approaches lane markings, it assists in returning to the centre of the lane.

Volvo adheres to the principle that the best customer is a satisfied customer. Following this approach, Volvo is prepared to offer a wide range of various additional services, from technical maintenance and repairs to fleet management and driver training courses. Volvo aims to ensure that trucks are always ready for work, with the support of over 2,000 dealerships and service centres in 130 countries. Don’t forget the roadside assistance options available 24/7 in 16 languages. Additionally, leveraging advanced Volvo telematics and diagnostic tools allows remote monitoring of the trucks’ condition, scheduling visits to repair shops, and ensuring optimal and timely maintenance.

Volvo also offers digital fleet management service packages. With Dynafleet and Volvo Connect, it is easy to know the precise location and operational readiness of trucks. Integrated features in these programs enable monitoring and analysis of fuel consumption, emissions, driving efficiency, speed, and other data. Moreover, Volvo Connect and Dynafleet services can be integrated into existing IT infrastructure. This means that by utilising fleet data, companies can enhance other third-party programs, from planning to compensation, ensuring an even more effective management level.

Including Volvo FH trucks in your fleet, companies will not be disappointed. Apart from the well-earned reputation for reliability, stability, and safety in the market, Volvo provides a plethora of auxiliary systems enabling more efficient, safer, and cost-effective driving. Additionally, there is a package of additional services that simplifies vehicle maintenance and fleet management.
