DAF trucks engines

The engines of DAF trucks from the Dutch company DAF stand out for their innovative technologies, reliability, and durability. DAF truck engines are produced by PACCAR, one of the leading truck engine manufacturers. Among the advanced engine technologies, it is worth mentioning highly efficient combustion and air management systems, while components such as smart oil, power steering, and water pumps ensure performance precisely tailored to the engine’s needs in any situation. This contributes to overall vehicle efficiency and lower fuel costs. Additionally, DAF sets strict requirements for engine longevity and reliability – the engines are designed to minimise wear, and maintenance intervals can be up to 200,000 km, reducing maintenance costs while ensuring maximum uptime. Furthermore, PACCAR engines meet stringent Euro 6 emission requirements while also ensuring maximum fuel efficiency. DAF employs various exhaust gas management technologies, such as SCR catalytic converters and active particulate filters.
PACCAR engine power ranges from 299 HP to 530 HP, making them ideal for long-haul transportation vehicles.
PACCAR engines can be of two types based on displacement in litres: MX 11 and MX 13. The numbers in the engine name specifically indicate the engine displacement – MX 11 has a displacement of 10.8 litres, while MX 13 has 12.9 litres.
The 10.8-liter displacement PACCAR MX-11 engine utilizes state-of-the-art Common Rail technology, variable geometry turbocharger, and advanced control devices, ensuring maximum efficiency (see Table 1 for more details on the sub-types of this engine). To meet Euro 6 emission requirements, the engine is equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system, as well as an active particulate filter and SCR technology.
To adapt PACCAR MX-11 engines for specific applications, two different engine configurations are possible. Engines with power outputs of 220 and 251 kW are optimised for urban, regional, and national transportation, using single vehicles or vehicle combinations up to 32-36 tons of gross vehicle weight.
These engines provide maximum torque over a wide 900-1400 rpm range. Engines with power outputs of 270, 300, and 330 kW are optimized for one-time deliveries when the vehicle’s gross weight ranges from 36 to 44 tons.

The 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine also features modern Common Rail technology, variable geometry turbocharger, and advanced control devices, ensuring maximum efficiency (more data can be found in Table 2). Like the engine with a smaller displacement, the MX-13 meets Euro 6 emission requirements, featuring exhaust gas recirculation, SCR technology, and an active particulate filter.
Thanks to the latest technologies, top-quality materials, and extensive functional integration, the engine ensures high reliability and durability. Water and oil supply channels, low-pressure fuel lines, and the high-pressure fuel injection pump housing are integrated into the cylinder block. The cylinder block is designed without side covers to maximise rigidity and minimise noise. The intake manifold is integrated into the cylinder head as a single piece. A combined fuel filter and water separator are mounted directly on the engine for ease of maintenance.
